context-engineering — GitHub Copilot plugin: use and install
This plugin helps GitHub Copilot work with the right project context. Use it to plan multi-file changes and refactors.
copilot plugin install context-engineering@awesome-copilotWhat context-engineering does
context-engineering adds code-structure guidance, slash commands, and an agent for context-aware development. /context-engineering:context-map maps the files relevant to a task, while /context-engineering:what-context-needed asks which files Copilot should see before answering.
The /context-engineering:refactor-plan command creates a multi-file refactoring plan with ordered steps and rollback actions. The context-architect agent identifies relevant context and dependencies, then helps plan or carry out the changes.
Install it when Copilot often works with incomplete project context. For isolated edits with no related files, this plugin adds little.
What it helps with
- map files relevant to a task
- identify the context Copilot needs
- plan a multi-file refactor
- trace dependencies across files
- prepare rollback steps for changes
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a context map for a change in `src/api` and its related files.
- Tell me which files you need before answering this refactoring question.
- Plan a multi-file refactor with ordered steps and rollback actions.
