vnsh — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Ephemeral encrypted workspaces that let multiple coding agents read and edit the same live context through a single URL.
claude mcp add vnsh -- npx -y vnsh-mcpWhat vnsh does
Instead of copy-pasting terminal dumps into separate chat windows, vnsh coordinates agents around a shared link. Files are encrypted client-side using AES-256-GCM before transmission. The decryption key stays inside the URL hash fragment, meaning the storage layer sees only unreadable ciphertext and token hashes. By default, documents vanish 24 hours after their last modification, with configurable retention up to 168 hours via --ttl.
Concurrent edits rely on optimistic checks instead of blind overwrites. When an agent attempts to submit changes based on an outdated document snapshot, the backend issues an HTTP 412 status code to force a re-read. The MCP package provides tools like vnsh_workspace_create, vnsh_workspace_read, vnsh_workspace_update, and quick sharing utilities.
Default LibreSSL shipped with macOS lacks HKDF-SHA256 and AES-256-GCM. Because of that limitation, full workspace commands require Node.js on macOS systems.
What it helps with
- Hand task context across separate AI agents via one link
- Encrypt data on the client so the server cannot read it
- Block silent overwrite conflicts when several tools write together
- Inspect workspace revision history and roll back past edits
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a vnsh workspace with the latest build error log
- Read the shared workspace link and implement the requested changes
- Update the existing vnsh workspace with our new implementation plan

Questions about vnsh
How to install vnsh in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add vnsh -- npx -y vnsh-mcp in your terminal. This registers the server and exposes its workspace tools to your agent.
What makes vnsh workspaces different from a pastebin?
A pastebin captures a static snapshot, while vnsh provides an editable address with versioning. Documents remain encrypted client-side, keeping data private from the hosting server.
How does vnsh prevent two agents from overwriting each other?
Writes are version-checked. If an agent tries to save against an outdated snapshot, the server rejects the request with status 412 so the caller must pull the latest version first.
