VideoRecompress Studio — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
This MCP server lets an agent use VideoRecompress Studio to compress videos with H.265 or AV1. It handles individual files and folders on Windows.
claude mcp add videorecompress -- npx -y @contentasoft/videorecompress-mcpWhat VideoRecompress Studio does
The package locates videorecompress.exe on a Windows PC and starts the app’s MCP service over stdio. An agent can compress a video or run a folder batch, inspect file details, and estimate storage savings. It can also retrieve available presets, formats, and licence status.
When the desktop app is missing, the server exposes get_started with installation guidance. VideoRecompress Studio must be installed on Windows; it processes local files and sends anonymous usage telemetry, which can be disabled in settings. The trial processes the first 10 files per PC without restrictions; later files get a watermark and a 10-minute cap. Each file in a batch uses one trial slot.
What it helps with
- compress videos with H.265 or AV1
- process a folder of videos in one batch
- inspect details for a video file
- estimate the storage savings from compression
Example prompts for the agent
- Compress
recording.mp4using AV1. - Process the videos in the
rawfolder and save compressed copies. - Estimate the space saved by compressing
demo.mp4.
