What The Brains does

The Brains is an MCP server that searches a person's own material: talks, interviews, essays, posts. Each passage it returns carries a link to the source and a date, so you can check where a claim came from. Useful when you want someone's actual experience with growth, distribution or pricing instead of the model's own guess.

One connector covers the whole directory at https://mcp.brains.ceo/mcp, exposing list_brains, search_brains and list_sources. A single person lives at https://mcp.brains.ceo/<slug>/mcp, for instance https://mcp.brains.ceo/pieter-levels/mcp, with its own search_brain and list_sources. Transport is streamable HTTP. On the first connection the client opens a sign-in: email plus a six-digit code. No password involved.

In Claude the server goes in with claude mcp add --transport http the-brains https://mcp.brains.ceo/mcp, then run /mcp and pick Authenticate. Codex takes codex mcp add the-brains --url https://mcp.brains.ceo/mcp followed by codex mcp login the-brains. Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Zed and GitHub Copilot use the same URL as a custom MCP server in their config. Skip the sign-in and the tools stay silent, so authenticate before your first query.

What it helps with

  • find what a specific founder said about pricing
  • cite a primary source instead of a model paraphrase
  • pull a set of quotes on product growth
  • see which distribution channels an investor mentions
  • compare how several people approach one problem

Example prompts for the agent

  • How would Pieter Levels price this product?
  • What did Paul Graham write about startup ideas?
  • List the distribution sources in the Naval Ravikant brain
