Tethered Task Sessions — Claude Code MCP server: setup

This MCP server lets a local AI session apply Tethered power and app rules on macOS. Use it when builds or tests need controlled system behavior.

What Tethered Task Sessions does

Tethered Task Sessions links a local AI assistant with Tethered on macOS. A task profile can select a power mode, keep the Mac or display awake through Caffeinate, change brightness, cap CPU use for eligible background apps, and temporarily suspend or quit selected apps.

Profiles can depend on the current power source and battery level. Agent calls are matched through rules in Tasks → Rules, while History lists calls that still need a profile assignment. The server is listed for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, and Zed.

You need Tethered 1.2.0 or later, Pro Access, and MCP Bridge enabled in Tasks. Tethered must be installed and running on the same Mac account used by the AI tool; otherwise the connection will not work.

What it helps with

  • switch the Mac power mode during an AI task
  • keep the computer awake for a build or test run
  • cap CPU use for background applications
  • select profiles from battery and power-source conditions
  • suspend apps when memory pressure reaches a configured level

Example prompts for the agent

  • Create a profile for a heavy AI task that selects high power and keeps the Mac awake.
  • When the Mac runs on battery at 40% or below, apply the low-power profile.
  • Set a CPU cap for a background app and suspend it when memory pressure rises.

Questions about Tethered Task Sessions

How do I install Tethered Task Sessions in Claude Code?

Install and run Tethered 1.2.0 or later on the Mac, obtain Pro Access, and turn on MCP Bridge under Tasks. Then connect the MCP server to Claude Code; both applications need to use the same Mac account.

What does Tethered Task Sessions do?

It lets an AI session apply Tethered controls for power mode, Caffeinate, brightness, CPU limits, app suspension, and app quitting. Profiles can be selected from battery-level and power-source conditions.

What is required for this MCP server to work?

Tethered 1.2.0 or later, Pro Access, and an enabled MCP Bridge in Tasks are required. The available controls depend on the installed Tethered version.
