What Receipt Extraction does

Receipt Extraction accepts a receipt or invoice as an image or PDF and produces a versioned Receipt JSON object containing vendor details, dates, line items, tax amounts, and totals. Each item includes a tax_code, a confidence score, and a short rationale describing the classification. That makes the result easier to review than raw OCR output alone.

The service checks the vendor's 11-digit Australian ABN using a modulus-89 checksum and reconciles GST across line items and document totals. Entertainment expenses receive special treatment because input tax credits may be disallowed, subject to documented exceptions such as meals incidental to travel. GST classification follows Australian tax rules; the output is software-generated information, not tax advice.

The remote MCP endpoint is https://receipt-extraction.acjlabs.com/mcp. Calling extract_receipt requires an API key sent through the Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY header. The free plan covers 20 documents per month without a payment card. Register through POST /v1/signup and save the returned key immediately, since it is displayed only once. The service implementation is closed source, while its documentation is hosted in a public repository.
