mcp · pixfaro — Claude Code MCP server: image generation from your agent
One MCP connection gives your coding agent image generation and editing, billed from a single prepaid balance. Provider keys stay on Pixfaro's side.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.pixfaro.com/mcpWhat mcp does
The server exposes generate_image, edit_image, list_models, get_balance and a few more tools. A prompt comes back as a hosted URL instead of base64, so your agent's context stays small. Edits reference an earlier generation by its img_… id — ask for a darker sky without describing the picture again.
Two ways in. Remote: paste https://mcp.pixfaro.com/mcp and sign in through the browser, no key stored anywhere. Local: run npx -y @pixfaro/mcp with PIXFARO_KEY set. Pick the second when your client has no OAuth. The endpoint can be pointed elsewhere with PIXFARO_API_URL; it defaults to https://api.pixfaro.com.
Nothing works without a pf_live_… key except list_models. There is no subscription — you top up the balance at pixfaro.com first. Some tools (render_template, list_templates, upload_asset) exist only on the remote server and are not in the npx build yet.
What it helps with
- generate an image from a text prompt without leaving the agent
- edit an existing picture by describing the change
- compare model prices and latency before spending
- check the remaining balance
- typeset a quote or post card from a template
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate a 16:9 cover image for a post about a lighthouse
- Make the sky darker on
img_8f2a… - List the models with prices and tell me which suits flat minimal illustrations

Questions about mcp
How do I install mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.pixfaro.com/mcp, then sign in through the browser. For the local build use claude mcp add --env PIXFARO_KEY=<PIXFARO_KEY> --transport stdio pixfaro-mcp -- npx -y @pixfaro/mcp.
What does mcp do?
It hands your agent tools for generating and editing images, listing models with prices, and checking the balance. Provider accounts, retries and format differences are handled behind the API.
Do I need an API key?
Yes — PIXFARO_KEY in the pf_live_… form, required for everything except list_models. The URL connection skips it and uses OAuth instead.
