optics-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects your AI coding assistant to the Sunex lens and image sensor catalog. Handy when matching camera optics to sensor dimensions during hardware design.
claude mcp add --transport sse optics-mcp https://mcp.sunex-ai.com/sseWhat optics-mcp does
This MCP server queries Sunex optics data directly from the model prompt. Five bundled tools handle sensor lookups, compute sensor geometry in millimeters, and filter lenses by optical circle or field of view. The agent can quickly check which lens covers a given pixel count and pitch.
The project runs as a lightweight Cloudflare Worker proxying requests to the public optics-online.com catalog API. It is completely read-only and requires zero authentication tokens. Communication relies on streamable HTTP via https://mcp.sunex-ai.com/mcp or legacy SSE on /sse.
What it helps with
- match compatible lenses to a chosen CMOS sensor model
- calculate optical sensor height, width, and diagonal dimensions
- filter lenses by aperture, field of view, or price limit
- pull sample pricing and request-for-quote links for optical parts
Example prompts for the agent
- Suggest a fast wide-angle lens with F/2.0 or lower for Sony IMX577.
- Calculate the sensor diagonal in millimeters for IMX477.
- Search for fisheye lenses priced under 100 dollars.
How to install optics-mcp
Platform CLI: remote server
claude mcp add --transport sse optics-mcp https://mcp.sunex-ai.com/sseCodex
Codex connects MCP servers over stdio and streamable HTTP only, and this server speaks SSE

Questions about optics-mcp
How to install optics-mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport sse optics-mcp https://mcp.sunex-ai.com/sse in your terminal. This immediately registers the optical catalog tools using the SSE transport.
What does optics-mcp do?
It connects your development environment to the Sunex catalog. The model can inspect optical components, verify image circle coverage, and pull technical specs.
Do I need an API key to query the catalog?
No authentication is required to use the public service. Anyone can also deploy the worker independently to their own Cloudflare account using Wrangler.
