What News Volume API does

The MCP server gives an agent access to News Volume API data. It can retrieve a keyword’s time series, compare growth across selected periods, and return a live trends feed. Series points include dates and a 0–100 index; absolute volume is available when the data provides it.

Trends API access requires an API key. The Python client documentation warns that news-volume requests can be slow, and an HTTP 504 response is not billed. Keep that in mind when collecting results. The news sentiment source measures tone, not mention counts.

What it helps with

  • track changes in news mentions for a topic
  • compare mention growth across time windows
  • fetch the current list of trending topics
  • check a keyword’s news-volume index

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show the news mention time series for “federal reserve”.
  • Compare “federal reserve” mention growth over 3M and 12M.
  • Which topics are currently in the live trends feed?
