myinstants — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Gives an AI agent access to myinstants.com sounds. Use it to search, browse, and play audio during coding work or reviews.
claude mcp add --env MYINSTANTS_VOLUME=<MYINSTANTS_VOLUME> --env MYINSTANTS_WAIT=<MYINSTANTS_WAIT> --transport stdio myinstants -- npx -y myinstants-mcpWhat myinstants does
myinstants connects an AI agent with the sound library on myinstants.com. It can search for clips, browse categories, read trending entries, and play audio from a search, a slug, or a direct MP3 URL. Playback may continue in the background or hold the agent until the sound ends.
The server provides search_sounds, browse_category, and play_sound. get_sound_details and list_devices become available with MYINSTANTS_DETAILS=true. Multiple sounds are queued instead of overlapping. macOS uses afplay; on Linux, playback requires ffmpeg to be available.
Claude Code can add the server with npx. Volume and waiting behavior can be supplied through MYINSTANTS_VOLUME and MYINSTANTS_WAIT. The package also has setup entries for Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, Zed, and Gemini CLI.
What it helps with
- search for a sound by keyword
- play a reaction while the agent works
- browse clips by category
- inspect a sound and list audio devices
Example prompts for the agent
- Search for
vine boomand play the first result. - Browse the
gamescategory, then play a suitable clip. - Use the sound slug to fetch its details and list the available audio devices.
