my-cool-proxy — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
An MCP gateway that exposes tools progressively via a Lua runtime, preventing context bloat across multiple servers.
claude mcp add my-cool-proxy -- npx -y @karashiiro/my-cool-proxyWhat my-cool-proxy does
Connecting numerous external services usually dumps every tool schema straight into the prompt. This proxy stops token waste by revealing capabilities in stages. The agent first inspects available servers, queries specific tool names, and retrieves parameter schemas only when preparing an invocation.
An embedded Lua environment handles tool composition. An agent can chain dependent API calls or iterate over items directly on the gateway through an execute() call. Intermediate outputs stay inside the runtime instead of round-tripping into the prompt history.
The gateway creates a blank configuration file during its initial start. Without manually adding downstream MCP server entries to that JSON file, the proxy serves nothing to the agent. Run my-cool-proxy --config-path to locate where those settings live.
What it helps with
- reduce token consumption caused by massive tool definitions
- chain multi-step tool calls in a single Lua execution script
- unify MCP server configurations across multiple coding assistants
- restrict agent actions to safe and filtered endpoints
Example prompts for the agent
- Check what MCP servers and tools are registered in my-cool-proxy
- Run a Lua script through my-cool-proxy to fetch and transform data from configured endpoints

Questions about my-cool-proxy
How to install my-cool-proxy in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add my-cool-proxy -- npx -y @karashiiro/my-cool-proxy in your terminal. It sets up the server and prepares the initial configuration file automatically.
What does my-cool-proxy do?
It serves as a unified gateway for multiple MCP servers. It shares tool schemas on demand rather than loading all definitions into the model context at the start.
Why does my-cool-proxy use Lua?
Lua lets agents execute sequential or conditional tool chains within one call. Intermediate payloads process on the gateway and skip the token-heavy context window.
