Motor Current Signature Analysis — Claude Code MCP server
An MCP server that reads stator-current signals and flags rotor, bearing and stator faults from the spectrum.
claude mcp add mcp-server-mcsa -- uvx mcp-server-mcsaWhat Motor Current Signature Analysis does
The server inspects stator current for signs of damage: broken rotor bars, air-gap eccentricity, stator inter-turn shorts, bearing defects. It ships 21 tools covering slip and fault-frequency math from nameplate data, FFT spectra, Welch PSD, Hilbert envelope demodulation and STFT. One call to run_full_diagnosis walks the whole chain and returns a severity class — healthy, incipient, moderate or severe.
Signals come from CSV, TSV, WAV and .npy files. Big arrays stay out of the chat context: they land in ~/.mcsa_data/ as compressed .npz and come back as short IDs like sig_xxxx and spec_xxxx, surviving a server restart. A synthetic-signal generator with configurable fault injection is there for demos.
It runs through uvx, so there is no separate package install. You need uv on the machine — without it the uvx command is not found, and you should restart the terminal after installing it. Quick check: uvx mcp-server-mcsa --help.
What it helps with
- spot broken rotor bars in a recorded stator-current signal
- derive bearing defect frequencies from geometry
- strip DC offset and filter a signal before spectral work
- grade fault severity from healthy through severe
- build a synthetic signal with a chosen fault for benchmarking
Example prompts for the agent
- Load the signal from
current.csvand compute the FFT spectrum - Motor: 4 poles, 50 Hz, 1470 RPM. Generate a signal with a broken rotor bar and run a full diagnosis
- Compute bearing defect frequencies BPFO, BPFI, BSF and FTF from the geometry

Questions about Motor Current Signature Analysis
How do I install Motor Current Signature Analysis in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mcp-server-mcsa -- uvx mcp-server-mcsa. To register it under a longer name, use claude mcp add motor-current-signature-analysis -- uvx mcp-server-mcsa.
What does this MCP server do?
It computes the stator-current spectrum and looks for motor faults in it: rotor, stator, bearings, air gap. The output is a report with a severity class.
What do I need before running it?
The uv package manager. The server starts via uvx mcp-server-mcsa, so restart your terminal once uv is installed.
