mcp · modelbrain — Claude Code MCP server: memory and install
A local MCP server connects ModelBrain to AI assistants, giving them shared memory stored on your computer.
claude mcp add mcp -- npx -y modelbrain-mcpWhat mcp does
This package links an MCP client with the ModelBrain desktop app that is already running locally. It exposes tools for saving and retrieving information, removing stored items, expanding context, and syncing connectors. The memory engine remains in ModelBrain; the package locates and starts its MCP binary over stdio.
Most clients can use npx -y modelbrain-mcp in their MCP configuration. Supported systems are macOS on Apple Silicon and Windows on x64 or arm64. ModelBrain must be installed first. Without the desktop app, the wrapper exits after showing where to obtain it.
ModelBrain can register itself directly with Claude Code and Cursor. For Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, and other clients, add the server configuration manually.
What it helps with
- keep project context across assistant sessions
- retrieve previously saved project details
- remove outdated memories
- expand stored information on request
- sync data through connectors
Example prompts for the agent
- Remember the database migration decision for this project.
- Recall the naming conventions saved for this codebase.
- Forget the stored rule for the old API.
