Magic Hour — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Gives your agent image, video and audio generation and editing through the hosted Magic Hour server. Handy when you want a clip or a still straight from the agent chat.
claude mcp add --transport http magic-hour https://mcp.magichour.ai/What Magic Hour does
This server hands an agent Magic Hour's media tools: generate and edit images and video, make music, upload files, wait for a render, and fetch existing audio projects. Tools are built from an OpenAPI spec at startup, with extra guidance telling the agent how to poll long jobs and download results.
Every generation spends credits from your Magic Hour account, and a creation tool replies right away with id and credits_charged. Technical failures usually refund credits; a result you simply dislike does not. A wait timeout doesn't mean the project failed, so resume with the same project ID.
Tool calls need authentication. With OAuth you sign in and approve access on Magic Hour; with manual setup you send Authorization: Bearer <magic_hour_api_key>. ping doesn't check the key, so call account_retrieve first. Files can't go in as raw bytes: the agent asks for an upload URL via video_assets_generate_presigned_url, uploads there, then hands the returned file_path to the creation tool.
What it helps with
- animate an approved product photo with a slow camera move
- swap a face in an existing video
- turn a portrait plus an audio file into a talking photo
- build a UGC ad clip from a script and a prepared image
- generate a music track from a text description
Example prompts for the agent
- Use Magic Hour to animate my portrait with a slow camera push, wait for the render and show me the finished video
- Check my Magic Hour API access with
