LeClap — Claude Code MCP server for video: setup and features
LeClap gives an agent tools to inspect a video template, validate it, and render an MP4 on your machine. Use it when you need repeatable output from JSON rather than model-generated footage.
claude mcp add --env LECLAP_MCP_OUTPUT_DIR=<LECLAP_MCP_OUTPUT_DIR> --env LECLAP_MCP_MEDIA_DIR=<LECLAP_MCP_MEDIA_DIR> --env LECLAP_MCP_RENDER_TIMEOUT_MS=<LECLAP_MCP_RENDER_TIMEOUT_MS> --env LECLAP_MCP_ALLOW_REMOTION=<LECLAP_MCP_ALLOW_REMOTION> --env LECLAP_MCP_REMOTION_ENTRY=<LECLAP_MCP_REMOTION_ENTRY> --transport stdio leclap-mcp -- npx -y @leclap/mcpWhat LeClap does
The server exposes tools for working with video templates. An agent can browse sample templates, check the schema and motion catalog, validate JSON, then render a video. Other tools inspect local media, transcribe speech, or derive visual style and structure from a reference.
Rendering runs locally through FFmpeg and produces deterministic output. A packaged sample catalog is available at runtime without the app or private creative-kit. Extracting a brand kit from a website requires --allow-network; without that flag, this tool cannot fetch the site.
What it helps with
- render an MP4 from a JSON template
- validate a template before rendering
- derive pacing and transitions from a reference clip
- transcribe speech in a local video
Example prompts for the agent
- Create an MP4 from this JSON template and save it to the requested folder.
- Validate this template and report any warnings before rendering.
- Analyze the pacing and transitions in this clip, then apply them as template rules.

Questions about LeClap
How do I install LeClap in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add video -- npx -y @leclap/mcp. This registers the server as video.
What does LeClap do?
It gives an agent tools to create, validate, and render videos from JSON templates. Rendering is deterministic rather than model-generated.
Does LeClap need network access?
Local template and media workflows do not require it. Website brand-kit extraction needs --allow-network.
