What Hindsight MCP does

Hindsight MCP puts commits, test runs, and GitHub Copilot conversations into a SQLite database. Its MCP tools can search commits and messages, show an activity timeline, find failed tests, and retrieve commit details. Git and Copilot records are collected automatically; test results are added when you run hindsight-mcp test.

Test collection depends on cargo-nextest. Install the server with cargo install hindsight-mcp. The setup guide for VS Code uses .vscode/mcp.json to launch hindsight-mcp with the --workspace argument. Without cargo-nextest, test results cannot be collected. The CLI also provides ingest and test commands, with options to target a package or preview a test run.
