HadithDB — Claude Code MCP server: setup
HadithDB lets an agent search Quran ayahs, tafsir, and hadith records, then inspect source details. It fits research workflows that run through MCP.
claude mcp add --transport http hadithdb https://hadithunlocked.com/mcpWhat HadithDB does
HadithDB connects an agent to Quran and hadith data through a read-only Streamable HTTP MCP server. It supports searches for ayahs, tafsir, and hadith, plus detailed record lookups with narrator chains, grading data, and related reports. Topic work runs through research_islamic_topic; ayah-focused work uses research_quran_ayah.
The server also exposes a hadith-commentary catalog, Quran navigation data, and audio playback metadata. Records may include Arabic and English separately when both are stored. Search results use pagination and time limits, while research dossiers separate direct tafsir, exact reports, linked reports, and search candidates. They are not exhaustive surveys or generated rulings.
Connect to https://hadithunlocked.com/mcp; the setup does not require an API key. The service is read-only. Its time and source bounds mean that important conclusions should be checked against coverage, with shortened or omitted sources retrieved separately.
What it helps with
- search Quran ayahs by topic or wording
- compare a hadith with tafsir commentary
- inspect a hadith record in detail
- review narrator chains and grading data
- assemble a research dossier for an Islamic question
Example prompts for the agent
- Search for Quran ayahs and tafsir about patience, then show which sources were found.
- Use
research_quran_ayahfor surah 2, ayah 255, and separate stored tafsir from your own explanation. - Look up a hadith from its reference and return its narrators, grading data, and related reports.
