GitWarren — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Provides local code review for coding agents before commits are created. Agents inspect diffs, read line comments, and answer feedback directly.
claude mcp add --env GITWARREN_DATA_DIR=<GITWARREN_DATA_DIR> --transport stdio gitwarren -- npx -y gitwarrenWhat GitWarren does
GitWarren lets you inspect local modifications the moment an assistant edits your files. It links directly to git working trees over stdio. Staged, unstaged, and untracked files appear combined into one diff view. You catch mistakes before committing anything.
The review interface runs as an Electron desktop app or inside a browser tab. Every comment and review record is kept on your machine in an SQLite database file. No cloud accounts exist. Running the CLI via npx requires Node 22.14 or later.
Agents interact with reviews through MCP tools. When you comment on a specific code line or a Markdown paragraph, the agent reads your note, edits the source, and marks the item resolved.
What it helps with
- inspect uncommitted assistant edits before creating a commit
- add line comments for the agent inside a pull-request interface
- let the model resolve review discussions directly in thread
- review Markdown changes side by side with rendered visual edits
Example prompts for the agent
- Open a GitWarren review for my current worktree changes
- Check my comments on the latest diff and fix the flagged issues
- List unresolved review threads in this repository
