git-courer — Claude Code MCP server: Git tools and setup
Give an AI agent structured access to Git operations, with automatic backups before writes. Useful for isolated work sessions and agent-managed commits.
Open on GitHubWhat git-courer does
git-courer is an MCP server that returns structured JSON to an agent. Its Git tools cover status, diffs, branches, stashes, history, and sync. For isolated work, session start creates a worktree and branch; session finish closes the session and cleans up the worktree.
Before a commit, the server examines the AST and dependency graph. Go rules determine the commit type, while an enabled LLM writes the message. With the LLM disabled, the agent writes the message itself, but release is unavailable. That restriction matters if your workflow needs releases without an LLM. Install with go install github.com/blak0p/git-courer@latest, then run git-courer mcp setup to configure the agent.
What it helps with
- inspect a repository’s status and diff through MCP
- isolate an agent task in its own worktree and branch
- preview a commit whose type is classified by Go
- restore changes using an automatic backup
Example prompts for the agent
- Check this repository’s status and diff with git-courer.
- Start an isolated session for this task.
- Prepare a commit and show me the preview before applying it.
