CryptoQuant — Claude Code MCP server: on-chain data and prices
Gives your agent on-chain metrics, OHLCV prices, derivatives data and CryptoQuant Research articles. Handy when the numbers you need live outside the repo.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://mcp.cryptoquant.com/mcpWhat CryptoQuant does
Nine tools arrive with the server. discover_endpoints locates data endpoints by asset and category, get_endpoint_info lists their parameters, and query_data pulls on-chain, market and derivatives figures. Research is covered separately: recent_research and query_research for CryptoQuant Research articles, recent_quicktake and query_quicktake for posts by Verified Authors. describe_metric returns a metric's definition, thresholds and how to read it, while list_assets shows which assets are supported.
The recommended route is the remote server at https://mcp.cryptoquant.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP. No API key goes into the config — the client opens a CryptoQuant sign-in page on first connect and OAuth takes over. In Claude, run /mcp after adding the server to sign in. Clients limited to local stdio servers can use the npx cryptoquant-mcp proxy instead, which passes messages through to the remote server unchanged. That path wants Node.js 18+ and a CryptoQuant API key in CRYPTOQUANT_API_KEY. Leave the key out and the proxy prints setup steps to stderr and exits, so the config never starts.
Dates are strings: yyyyMMdd when window=day, yyyyMMddTHHmmss for other windows. Rate limits and how far back history goes follow your CryptoQuant plan, and the server reports those limits to the agent on connect. Coming from 0.x?
What it helps with
- pull an on-chain metric for BTC on a given day
- fetch OHLCV candles for an altcoin
- look up a metric's definition and thresholds
- search CryptoQuant Research articles by topic
- check which assets the server supports
Example prompts for the agent
- Find BTC on-chain endpoints and show me their parameters
- Query the metric for
20260115and explain what it measures - Search QuickTake for recent notes about stablecoins

Questions about CryptoQuant
How do I install CryptoQuant in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http cryptoquant https://mcp.cryptoquant.com/mcp, then type /mcp in Claude and sign in to your CryptoQuant account.
What does CryptoQuant do?
It hands the agent on-chain data, prices, market and derivatives metrics, plus CryptoQuant Research articles and QuickTake notes. Endpoint discovery and metric explanations come with it.
Do I need an API key?
Not for the remote server — OAuth handles sign-in. The CRYPTOQUANT_API_KEY key is only for the local npx cryptoquant-mcp proxy, which also needs Node.js 18+.
