Context — ctxt.io — Claude Code MCP server: setup guide
Context — ctxt.io lets coding agents publish text, code, Markdown, or HTML behind links that expire. Use it to hand off generated content without pasting the whole result into a conversation.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://ctxt.io/mcpWhat Context — ctxt.io does
Context — ctxt.io exposes MCP operations for publishing content, retrieving it, and removing it. Agents can work with plain text, source code, Markdown, and HTML; each publication returns a link with a limited lifetime. The available tools are create_context, read_context, and delete_context.
Free links on the general service last from 5m to 1d. The Claude Code plugin also includes a sharing skill and the /ctxt:share command. It guides the agent through sharing a result and preparing static HTML with inline SVG. Server-side processing strips scripts, so JavaScript-driven page behavior will not survive publication.
The general MCP endpoint uses HTTP and requires neither authentication nor an account. Anyone with a public link can read its contents, so keep credentials and other secrets out of shared material. Store the returned delete_token privately as well, since it grants the ability to remove the publication. The server can also be connected without installing the bundled plugin.
What it helps with
- Publish an agent response behind an expiring link
- Share a code snippet without pasting it into chat
- Send a Markdown document or static HTML page
- Retrieve previously published content through MCP
- Remove a publication using its deletion token
Example prompts for the agent
- Publish this report as a temporary link and return the URL.
- Share the current HTML mockup using
/ctxt:share. - Create a link for this code snippet, then remove the publication.
