Commonlands Optics — Claude Code MCP server for lens finding
Finds M12 and C-mount lenses for a sensor and calculates field of view. Useful when comparing lens options or checking product details before purchase.
claude mcp add --transport http optics-mcp https://mcp.commonlands.com/mcpWhat Commonlands Optics: M12 Lens and C-Mount Lens Finder + Field-of-View Calculator does
The server matches M12 and C-mount lenses to a sensor and target field of view, then calculates horizontal, vertical, and diagonal angles. A general catalog search does not replace a calculation for a specific sensor; use the dedicated tool for that lens-and-sensor pair.
Request tools/list to see the available tools. Use match_lens_to_sensor for sensor-based selection, calculate_field_of_view for the calculation, and search_lens_catalog for broad catalog searches. get_lens_distortion_profile returns distortion status and model information. Before giving a price or availability, check Shopify with read_shopify_products. Cart creation or changes require the buyer to confirm exact variants and quantities. FoV calculations rely on a configured live backend; without it, those tools fail. The server connects over HTTP.
What it helps with
- match an M12 or C-mount lens to a sensor
- calculate field of view for a lens and sensor
- search lenses by mount, type, or title
- check a lens's distortion status
- verify product price and availability before preparing a cart
Example prompts for the agent
- Use
match_lens_to_sensorto find a lens for this sensor and target field of view, then runcalculate_field_of_viewfor the candidate. - Search the catalog for C-mount lenses and compare their optical specifications.
- Check the current price and availability for this SKU with
read_shopify_products.

Questions about Commonlands Optics: M12 Lens and C-Mount Lens Finder + Field-of-View Calculator
How do I install Commonlands Optics in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http optics-mcp https://mcp.commonlands.com/mcp. This registers the server over HTTP.
What does Commonlands Optics do?
It searches M12 and C-mount lenses, matches them to sensors, and calculates field of view. Shopify product checks provide current price and availability.
Why use a separate field-of-view tool?
General lens catalog values are not enough to calculate field of view for a particular sensor. Use calculate_field_of_view for the selected lens and sensor.
