BeatDesign — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
BeatDesign connects an agent to a local media workspace with a Canvas, video editor, and shared project files. Use it to build and export video workflows.
Open on GitHubWhat BeatDesign does
BeatDesign is a local workspace for image and video creation. Its Canvas lets you connect nodes, branch ideas, and compare results. The video editor turns Canvas outputs into a timeline with audio, image overlays, and SRT captions, then exports MP4 in the browser. Imported and generated files remain available as Assets across the workspace.
The MCP server gives an agent access to projects, Assets, Canvas, generation, and editor operations. The v0.2.5 package includes 30 MCP tools. Project data and media stay in the local workspace. A BeatAPI key is needed for media generation or analysis and AI redo; local importing and editing do not require one.
Running it requires Node.js 22+, pnpm 10+, and a recent Chrome release on macOS or Windows. Run pnpm install, then pnpm db:push; start pnpm mcp for the stdio server used by coding agents, or pnpm dev:agent for the local HTTP endpoint. Browser MP4 export works without system FFmpeg. MCP frame extraction needs ffmpeg, while timeline rendering also needs ffprobe.
What it helps with
- connect an agent to a local project and its media
- turn Canvas results into a video timeline
- add audio and SRT captions to a cut
- export a finished edit as browser-rendered MP4
Example prompts for the agent
- Connect to BeatDesign and list the Assets in the current project.
- Build a video timeline from the Canvas outputs and prepare an MP4 export.
- Find project media that can be used in a new edit.

Questions about BeatDesign
How do I install BeatDesign for Claude Code?
Install dependencies with pnpm install, run pnpm db:push, then start pnpm mcp for the stdio MCP server. Use pnpm dev:agent to start the HTTP endpoint instead.
What does BeatDesign do?
It brings a media Canvas, a video editor, and MCP access to the same local project, so an agent can work with the workspace shown in the browser.
Does BeatDesign need an API key?
A BeatAPI key is needed for media generation, analysis, and AI redo. Local media import, editing, and export do not require one.
