What atlas does

atlas lets an AI assistant query an atlas of notable railway routes, including night trains and journey times. The repository also contains route data in CSV, JSON, and GeoJSON formats; the GeoJSON includes line geometry.

The local dataset covers 961 routes across 118 countries. Its fields include termini, distance, speed, operator, and published journey duration. These figures are approximate and drawn from public references, so the atlas is for exploration and visualization, not transport operations.

Claude Code connects over HTTP at https://trainrouter.com/mcp. Some route geometry comes from OpenStreetMap and is licensed under ODbL, while the facts have a separate license.

What it helps with

  • find notable railway routes
  • check a route's distance and journey time
  • compare night and high-speed trains
  • retrieve route data for visualization

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find notable overnight train routes.
  • Compare the distance and journey time of well-known rail routes.
  • What route details are available for journeys between these cities?
