apibase — MCP server for Claude Code: an API catalog with per-call payment
One endpoint in front of 1386 tools from 401 providers. No signup and no API key to begin — you pay per call in USDC.
claude mcp add --transport http apibase https://apibase.pro/mcpWhat apibase does
The server hands your agent a tool list and routes each call through payment. Two rails are supported: x402 on Base and MPP on Tempo. Nothing to subscribe to up front; the meter runs on the individual call.
Under the hood sits a single Node.js/TypeScript API server, with PostgreSQL as the append-only record for money and Redis kept for cache and rate limiting. Calls share one pipeline: escrow first, idempotent execution, fail-closed on error, content moderation in the path. Self-hosting needs POSTGRES_PASSWORD, X402_PAYMENT_ADDRESS and provider keys in .env — the stack will not come up without them.
Wiring it in takes one URL, https://apibase.pro/mcp, or a local client launched with npx. Merchants get a separate deal: their own MCP storefront, a buyer agent that requests a quote and pays straight into the merchant wallet. Non-custodial, and the fee is 0% during the pilot.
What it helps with
- wire an external API catalog into an agent with one line
- call a third-party tool and settle the fee in USDC
- stand up a merchant-owned MCP storefront
- take payment from a buyer's agent without custody
- sync a catalog with WooCommerce and receive paid-order webhooks
Example prompts for the agent
- Connect apibase and list the tools in the catalog
- Find a tool in the catalog that parses PDFs and call it
- What does this tool cost, and how does the USDC payment go through?
