Alloy — Claude Code MCP server: a shared workspace for agents
Points your agent at the Alloy workspace so it reads team knowledge first, writes artifacts back, and can hand work to cloud agents.
claude mcp add --transport http alloy https://api.alloy.cx/mcpWhat Alloy does
Alloy is a workspace where people and AI agents share artifacts, knowledge, skills and access to outside systems. This plugin makes Alloy the agent's source of truth. Before answering, the agent pulls company docs, past decisions, knowledge notes and communication history. Afterwards it writes proposals, research, specs, logs and reusable notes that later agents can pick up.
Two skills ship in the repo. skills/work-with-alloy/ is the core one; skills/review-alloy-operations/ audits teammates, instruction skills, workflows, MCPs and recent activity. The Codex and Claude manifests are thin wrappers over the same skill content, which keeps the skills host-neutral. Business systems arrive through Alloy-controlled MCP: the agent connects once, and Alloy decides which upstream MCPs, APIs, files and secrets it can reach.
You need an ALLOY_TOKEN in the host environment before starting — the bundled .mcp.json reads the bearer from it, and without the variable the connection will not come up. Restart the host after installing, since the MCP server loads at startup. In Claude the plugin installer clones sources from GitHub over SSH by default, so have a working SSH key or a global git URL rewrite to HTTPS in place first.
What it helps with
- read shared company knowledge before answering
- write a decision or spec that future agents can find
- reach CRM and internal systems through one MCP connection
- delegate a task to an Alloy cloud agent and continue from its output
- audit AI teammates, skills and workflows
Example prompts for the agent
- Check Alloy for what we decided about this service and answer with that context
- Save the research summary to Alloy as a note for the team
- Run an Alloy operations review over skills, workflows and recent activity

Questions about Alloy
How do I install Alloy in Claude Code?
Add the marketplace with /plugin marketplace add Alloy-Systems/alloy-marketplace, then run /plugin install work-with-alloy@alloy-marketplace. Restart Claude afterwards and check claude mcp list for the registration.
What does Alloy do?
It gives the agent a shared operating layer with your team: reading accumulated knowledge, writing durable artifacts, reaching business systems through a governed MCP, and calling Alloy cloud agents.
What does Alloy need to run?
An ALLOY_TOKEN in the host environment and a host restart after install. On Claude you also need a working GitHub SSH key or a git URL rewrite to HTTPS.
