Australia powers Entain H1 growth as David and Snape double down on CEE exit

Entain reported 13% online revenue growth in Australia during the first half, year on year in constant currency. New Zealand added 21%. Against that backdrop the operator confirmed its exit from Central and Eastern European markets, announced in June.

Market share in Australia rose on the back of improved bet-builder tools and native apps. In August 2024 Entain launched sports-focused brand Betcha in New Zealand. A year later the company appointed Andrew Vouris as CEO for Australia and New Zealand; he brings 17 years of local gambling-sector experience. CEO Stella David said the pivot from racing to broader sports content delivered sustained double-digit growth.

New Zealand is preparing to liberalise iGaming by 2027, with casino regulation starting early in the year. Entain is targeting three of the 15 available licences, including TAB's tote monopoly. Spain also posted a strong result: Bwin NGR climbed 28% in the half.

International NGR for Entain rose 7%. The CEE business grew 2% until exit (online +7%, retail −22%). CFO Michael Snape said the CEE sale will bring group leverage below 3x, with excess capital returned to shareholders. David stressed the company is focused on unlocking portfolio value, not selling off assets.
