Online casino rises as Denmark’s gambling revenue falls

Denmark's total gambling GGR fell 7.1% year-on-year to DKK 678m in August 2026. Sports betting collapsed 42.7% to DKK 132m. Online casino moved in the opposite direction, rising 12.5% to DKK 415m.

Other verticals showed mixed results. Gaming machines held flat at DKK 95m. Land-based casinos grew 8.7% to DKK 34m, bingo rose 6.4% to DKK 3m. That growth was not enough to offset the betting collapse.

Online casino became the largest segment of Denmark's liberalised market for the month. Regulator Spillemyndigheden has published monthly figures since January 2012. The August data show final revenue but do not explain the betting decline or break out individual operator performance. Sports betting revenue also fell in markets such as Illinois and in BetMGM's Q2 results, though those are separate cases with no common cause identified.

Next monthly releases will show whether the trend holds or August was a one-off.
