user-onboarding — Claude Code skill: scripting the first conversation
A skill that scripts the opening exchange with a new user: a short intro, real task examples, and a question about what repeats every week.
npx skills add Starchild-ai-agent/official-skills --skill user-onboarding -a claude-codeWhat user-onboarding does
The skill fires when a session has no history or the user asks what the agent can do, where to start, or just says hello with no context. It first reads USER.md and MEMORY.md. If those hold a role, past tasks or schedules, the intro is skipped and the reply picks up from what was set up last time and whether it still works. With no memory, it falls back to a short three-part opener.
What ships is a written script, not code. It sets the order of steps, blocks feature dumps, and requires something concrete in the very first reply. The reply language comes from settings or memory, and the agent has to hold that language from the first sentence. A crypto and trading branch exists, but only switches on when the user signals it.
The script assumes a Starchild agent: it leans on USER.md, MEMORY.md, free credit, and binding Telegram or WeChat. Elsewhere those steps go nowhere because the files and settings are not there. The description is cut off, so little is known about the steps past the second exchange.
What it helps with
- open a first conversation without dumping a feature list
- reuse earlier context instead of introducing yourself twice
- turn a complaint about a chore into a concrete agent task
- match the reply language to the user's settings
- keep the crypto branch out of the way when it is irrelevant
Example prompts for the agent
- I'm new here, where do I start?
- what can you actually do?
- I don't know what to ask you

Questions about user-onboarding
How do I install user-onboarding in Claude?
Run npx skills add Starchild-ai-agent/official-skills --skill user-onboarding -a claude-code. The skill file then sits at ~/.claude/skills/user-onboarding/SKILL.md.
What does user-onboarding do?
It scripts the first exchange: a short intro, real task examples instead of a feature menu, and a question about what repeats in the user's week. If memory already has signal, the intro is skipped.
What does the skill need to work?
It is written for a Starchild agent and relies on USER.md, MEMORY.md, free credit, and binding Telegram or WeChat. Outside that setup those steps do nothing.
