chatgpt-codex-onboarding — Claude Code skill: sign in with ChatGPT
Connects a ChatGPT or Codex subscription through OAuth device-code login so you can use gpt-5-codex models without an API key.
npx skills add Starchild-ai-agent/official-skills --skill chatgpt-codex-onboarding -a claude-codeWhat chatgpt-codex-onboarding does
The skill runs a device-code login for a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Team subscription. It hands you a verification URL and a user code to enter in the browser by hand. Once you approve, the token is written to disk and the models show up under the openai-codex/ prefix.
It is a script-mode skill, so no tools get registered. You read the file and call the exports from a bash block. The exports are status, start, poll, logout, refresh, models and usage. Each returns a dict with ok: True on success or ok: False plus an error string.
One thing to watch: after poll() reports success, the web frontend does not refresh the model list on its own. The user has to reload the page manually, otherwise the new models never appear in the picker and the connection looks broken. From then on, calls go straight to OpenAI with the OAuth token, bypassing the platform proxy, and they draw on subscription limits rather than the platform credit balance. This is not BYOK — if you already hold an OpenAI API key, you want a different skill.
What it helps with

- get gpt-5-codex access through OAuth
- check whether a credential is already stored
- log out and wipe the stored credentials
- read subscription usage stats
Example prompts for the agent
- Connect my Claude subscription through OAuth
- Sign in to my Claude account and show me the URL and code
- Check the OAuth status and refresh the token if it expired
