unity-pipeline — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Operates an active Unity Editor instance or desktop dev Player: handles recompilation, runs test suites, and patches C# code at runtime.
npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill unity-pipeline -a claude-codeWhat unity-pipeline does
The skill connects coding agents to an active Unity Editor over local server ports 7800-7849. The agent modifies C# files, initiates domain reloads via recompile, and tracks compilation progress automatically. Setting set_autotick is necessary for headless background edits. Without it, unfocused Unity windows throttle execution loops.
In Play Mode or Mono development builds, developers can patch functions instantly using reload_file. Tagged methods swap logic without incurring full domain reloads. However, this runtime patching works solely on public void instance methods and fails entirely on IL2CPP builds. For batch scene manipulation, the tool uses run_script on external C# files to avoid messy multiline evaluation.
What it helps with
- execute Unity test fixtures from the command line
- patch gameplay logic without triggering domain reloads
- generate scene objects using standalone C# builders
- recompile assets while the editor runs in the background
Example prompts for the agent
- Check Unity Editor connection status and enable autotick
- Run editor tests filtering by MyFixture.MyTest
- Execute builder script at AgentScripts/Build.cs with entry Build. All
