task-execution-engine — Claude Code skill: tasks and setup
This skill runs implementation work from Markdown task lists and keeps their status updated. Use it for batch execution, fresh feature work, or a paused run.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/task-execution-engineWhat task-execution-engine does
task-execution-engine takes a design document, finds the next unfinished item, reads its files and acceptance checks, then carries out the work and verifies the result. Progress stays in the document through Markdown checkboxes: completed work is marked done, while blocked work is recorded with a failure reason.
The skill uses scripts/task_manager.py with next, done, fail, and status operations. Reusing the same design file resumes from its first open task. It is built for unattended runs, so it follows patterns already present in the codebase and moves past blocked items after recording their status. The process needs a Markdown design file containing checkbox-based tasks.
What it helps with
- pick the next unfinished item from a design file
- run an implementation plan as a batch
- resume work after an interrupted run
- check a task against its acceptance criteria
- record a blocked task and its reason
Example prompts for the agent
- Start implementation from
docs/designs/user-auth.mdand work through the tasks. - Resume the implementation in
docs/designs/user-auth.mdfrom the first open task. - Show the current status for
docs/designs/user-auth.md, then take the next task.
