What github-automation does

This skill lays out the Composio tool sequences for GitHub. Filing and triaging issues, handling pull requests, creating branches, changing repository settings, searching code and commits, reading workflow and deployment status — all of it runs through Rube MCP instead of the gh CLI.

Setup comes first. Add https://rube.app/mcp as an MCP server in your client config; no API keys are involved. Then call RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS with the github toolkit and finish OAuth through the link you get back. Nothing runs until that connection reads ACTIVE. Tool schemas shift, so the skill insists on calling RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS before anything else.

A few traps are worth knowing. GITHUB_LIST_REPOSITORY_ISSUES returns pull requests alongside issues, so check the pull_request field. Labels and assignees get dropped without a warning when the account lacks push access. Merging is gated on your explicit confirmation, and GITHUB_CREATE_A_REFERENCE only makes new refs — existing ones need GITHUB_UPDATE_A_REFERENCE.
