What skill-manager does

The skill routes requests through search_skills. It checks installed skills first, then searches the Starchild official index and skills.sh. When a match is found, it can add the best result with npx skills add; automatic installation is enabled by default.

Calling the tool without a query lists installed skills. A newly added skill is available immediately, while skill_refresh() is only needed after you edit skill files by hand. Manual downloads are the wrong path here: the workflow requires search_skills instead of curl, web_fetch, or writing a SKILL.md file yourself.

What it helps with

  • find a skill for a task
  • install the best matching skill
  • list skills already installed
  • refresh skills after manual edits

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find and install a skill for Kubernetes deployment.
  • List all skills that are installed.
  • Search for a trading skill without installing it by setting auto_install=false.
