skill-autoresearch — Claude Code skill: improve SKILL.md with evals
Runs edits to skills, prompts and SOPs through a frozen local benchmark: one change per run, then keep or revert.
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill skill-autoresearch -a claude-codeWhat skill-autoresearch does
The skill takes a single repo artifact — SKILL.md, an SOP, a prompt template or a workflow doc — and pushes it through a bounded improvement loop. It starts by asking whether the loop is warranted at all. The current version may already clear the bar, or the only real drift may sit in the supporting files. Without evidence of headroom, the run stops there.
When the loop does go ahead, loop-charter.md is written first. That charter pins the goal, the current baseline, the one mutable artifact, the evaluation harness, which supporting files are in scope, and the time and iteration budget. The evaluator stays untouched afterwards: a single meaningful change goes in, the same harness runs again, and both wins and reverts land in an append-only log that lives in git and survives PR review.
To start, the target needs 3-5 representative prompts or scenarios, 3-6 checks answered yes or no, and a deterministic way to inspect behavior or dry-run it. No representative prompts, no stable check — no loop. Hosted evaluation and tracing platforms such as LangSmith, Braintrust, Weave or Promptfoo sit outside this skill; requests for those get routed elsewhere.
What it helps with
- decide whether an artifact deserves another round of edits
- lock the evaluation harness before touching anything
- snapshot the baseline and record experiment 0
- make one change and compare it against the baseline on the same harness
- refresh
references/,evals/and discovery wording after a proven change
Example prompts for the agent
- Check whether this repo's
SKILL.mdis worth another ratchet, and writeloop-charter.md - Baseline the current skill and log experiment 0
- Tighten the skill's triggers with one change, rerun the same checks, then keep or revert

Questions about skill-autoresearch
How do I install skill-autoresearch in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill skill-autoresearch -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/skill-autoresearch/SKILL.md.
What does skill-autoresearch do?
It improves a reusable repo artifact against a frozen harness: baseline, one change, rerun, then a keep-or-revert call. The run history is appended and stays in git.
How is it different from autoresearch or hosted eval platforms?
It works locally inside the repo and targets markdown artifacts. GPU experiments and platforms like LangSmith, Braintrust, Weave or Promptfoo are out of scope and get routed away.
