speckit-taskstoissues — Claude Code skill: tasks to GitHub issues
Turns tasks from tasks.md into dependency-ordered GitHub issues. The skill is marked deprecated and points to a replacement extension.
npx skills add dceoy/speckit-agent-skills --skill speckit-taskstoissues -a claude-codeWhat speckit-taskstoissues does
The skill reads tasks.md in a spec-kit project and opens one GitHub issue per task. Titles follow the T001: <description> pattern, so task order and links stay visible in the issue list.
Before creating anything, it queries list_issues through the GitHub MCP server and skips IDs that already have an issue. That matters when you re-run it after regenerating tasks.md. It only proceeds if git remote points at GitHub — on another host the later steps stop.
You need the GitHub MCP server and a spec-kit layout with a .specify/ directory. The skill is deprecated: on start it prints a warning and suggests the github extension instead — specify extension add github, then /speckit-github-taskstoissues. It does not install the extension on its own and does not halt.
What it helps with
- turn tasks from
tasks.mdinto GitHub issues - keep task order and dependencies visible in the tracker
- avoid duplicate issues when the skill runs again
- create issues only for tasks that lack one
- tie feature tasks to the repo from git remote
Example prompts for the agent
- /speckit-taskstoissues
- /speckit-taskstoissues label:backend
- /speckit-taskstoissues only tasks from US1
