speckit-clarify — Claude Code skill: spec questions, install
Scans a feature spec for gaps, asks up to 5 targeted questions and writes the answers back into the spec file.
npx skills add dceoy/speckit-agent-skills --skill speckit-clarify -a claude-codeWhat speckit-clarify does
The skill loads the active feature spec and walks it category by category: user goals and success criteria, data model, interaction flows, non-functional requirements, external dependencies, edge cases, terminology. Each category gets a status — clear, partial or missing — and the gaps feed a question queue.
Five questions per session at most, and every one is cheap to answer: a pick from 2–5 options or a phrase of five words or less. They come one at a time. Answers are encoded back into the spec, so the file changes as the conversation goes.
It expects a spec-kit project layout with a .specify/ directory. Without it the prerequisite check aborts and the skill tells you to run /speckit-specify first. Run this before /speckit-plan; skipping the questions means reworking the plan later.
What it helps with
- surface decisions the spec author never wrote down
- fill gaps in acceptance criteria before planning starts
- record edge-case answers inside the spec file itself
- check the spec against project constitution rules
- cap the review at five questions instead of an endless interview
Example prompts for the agent
- run /speckit-clarify on the current spec
- clarify the spec — I care about loading and error states
- /speckit-clarify security and personal data handling
