sap-abap — Claude Code skill: ABAP and ABAP Cloud
A skill that guides an agent through ABAP code: internal tables, ABAP SQL, RAP, CDS, EML, unit tests. Useful when the project runs on SAP and the syntax has to match a specific release.
npx skills add secondsky/sap-skills --skill sap-abap -a claude-codeWhat sap-abap does
The skill covers how ABAP is written: data declarations, constructor operators such as VALUE, NEW and CONV, table expressions, string templates, exception handling, dynamic programming, RTTI/RTTC, field symbols and data references. Modern ABAP for Cloud Development gets its own treatment — RAP, CDS views, EML statements.
A compatibility table maps features to releases, from 7.40 SP08 up to ABAP Cloud. Anything that needs a newer release carries an inline marker like " [7.xx+] in the examples. On a 7.40 system you swap FINAL(...) for DATA(...) and skip the 7.50+ features. Most of the modern syntax — VALUE, NEW, CONV, inline declarations, table expressions, REDUCE, FILTER, GROUP BY — works from 7.40 SP08 onward.
There is also an error catalog, performance notes and a list of source documentation. Related skills sit alongside it: sap-abap-cds, sap-btp-cloud-platform, sap-cap-capire, sap-fiori-tools, sap-api-style. If several of them are installed, watch that the agent does not blend advice meant for different layers.
What it helps with
- write ABAP that matches the release of the target system
- move classic ABAP toward ABAP Cloud patterns
- build an ABAP SQL query with joins and aggregates
- work through internal tables and field symbols
- add ABAP unit tests to existing code
Example prompts for the agent
- Declare an internal table with a key and fill it using VALUE
- Rewrite this SELECT as ABAP SQL with host variables and check it works on 7.40 SP08
- Show me how to do this with RAP and a CDS view

Questions about sap-abap
How do I install sap-abap in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add secondsky/sap-skills --skill sap-abap -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/sap-abap/SKILL.md.
What does sap-abap do?
It gives the agent a reference for ABAP and ABAP Cloud syntax: data types, internal tables, ABAP SQL, constructor expressions, RAP, CDS, EML, exceptions and testing. A release compatibility table and an error catalog come with it.
Which ABAP releases does it cover?
From 7.40 SP08 through ABAP Cloud. Features that require a newer release are marked " [7.xx+] in the examples, so on an older system you can see what needs rewriting.
