reddit-marketing-agent — Claude Code skill: find Reddit threads
A skill that searches Reddit for threads matching your keywords and drafts replies for them. Useful if you run a community or promote a product there.
npx skills add reason-machines/marketing-skills --skill reddit-marketing-agent -a claude-codeWhat reddit-marketing-agent does
The skill documents a Reddit workflow: search chosen subreddits, filter threads by keywords, and prepare replies that read like a person, not an ad. Inside are Python examples using praw for the Reddit API and OpenAI calls for text generation. A full-cycle script ties it together: search, filter by score and post age, generate replies for the top threads, save everything to a timestamped JSON file.
Settings live in config.yaml or config.json: subreddit list, keywords, filters (min_upvotes, max_age_hours, exclude_patterns) and reply options such as tone, max length and value-first ordering. To run it you need REDDIT_CLIENT_ID, REDDIT_CLIENT_SECRET, REDDIT_USER_AGENT and OPENAI_API_KEY in .env. No Reddit and OpenAI keys means the scripts stop at the first call, so register a Reddit app and set up model access first.
The point is a repeatable loop: strategy, logs and source context sit next to each other so you can revisit and adjust. The author advises a helpful tone and value before any mention. It is not an autoposter — the generator hands you a draft, you publish it yourself.
What it helps with
- find fresh threads in subreddits by keyword
- drop low-score and stale discussions
- write a reply that fits the thread without sounding promotional
- log found opportunities to JSON
- rerun the same search on a schedule
Example prompts for the agent
- find threads in r/Entrepreneur about marketing automation from the past week
- draft a reply to this thread in a helpful tone
- run the workflow from config.json and save the results
