printing-press-retro — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Runs a structured retrospective after a Printing Press CLI generation run, redacts sensitive data, and drafts GitHub issues for core tool defects.
npx skills add mvanhorn/cli-printing-press --skill printing-press-retro -a claude-codeWhat printing-press-retro does
The skill reviews execution sessions after Printing Press finishes generating a CLI tool. It walks through nine distinct phases, starting with evidence gathering and candidate triage, before writing the retrospective proof and packaging artifacts. The agent never works from memory. It must explicitly read the procedure file from phases/ before beginning each step.
The workflow focuses entirely on the generator instead of fixing one generated output. It files GitHub issues only for reproducible P1 and P2 defects found in the generator, scorer, skills, or binary components. Lower-priority P3 items are dropped immediately. Manual tweaking of a single CLI is considered routine work, so the skill will not file an issue for it.
All secrets and personal data are scrubbed before drafting any public documents. The skill works on temporary copies and never quotes exposed credentials as evidence. It also holds back all GitHub submissions until the user explicitly approves the final Submit action.
What it helps with
- run a nine-phase retrospective on a Printing Press CLI generation run
- scrub secrets and personal information from retro logs and reports
- triage defects and filter out findings below P2 priority
- draft actionable GitHub issues for generator and scorer defects
Example prompts for the agent
- /printing-press-retro
- Run a retrospective on the latest Printing Press CLI build and file findings
- Review what went wrong during the press run and submit findings

Questions about printing-press-retro
How do I install printing-press-retro in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add mvanhorn/cli-printing-press --skill printing-press-retro -a claude-code. This installs the skill to ~/.claude/skills/printing-press-retro/SKILL.md.
What does printing-press-retro do?
It audits logs from a Printing Press session, removes sensitive data, and creates a retrospective proof document. When reproducible P1 or P2 defects are confirmed, it prepares GitHub issues for the Printing Press toolchain.
Does the skill fix issues in the generated CLI?
No, it only targets flaws in the Printing Press generator, scorer, skills, or binary. Individual fixes for a generated CLI or low-priority P3 issues are filtered out.

File only when the Printing Press must change to stop a current, reproducible, generalizing P1 or P2 defect. Manual iteration on one CLI is expected work, not a finding. In user-facing output say "the Printing Press"; name the subsystem when pointing at a fix. ## Boundaries - **Redact** every real secret and PII before quoting. Issue bodies and retro docs are public.
