pptx-official — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
A Claude skill that handles .pptx files end to end: reading, editing and building slide decks. Useful whenever a presentation lands in your task.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill document-processing/pptx-officialWhat pptx-official does
The skill fires whenever a .pptx file shows up, as input or output. It pulls text out of an existing deck, edits slides in place, builds new ones from a template or from scratch, and works with layouts, speaker notes and comments.
Under the hood there are scripts plus written guides. Text extraction runs through python -m markitdown presentation.pptx, a visual pass through python scripts/thumbnail.py presentation.pptx, and raw XML through python scripts/office/unpack.py presentation.pptx unpacked/. Editing follows a fixed order: unpack, change the slides, clean up, pack again. Building from scratch is covered separately and leans on pptxgenjs.
A large chunk of the skill is about looks — palettes, font pairings, sizes, spacing — and about QA. Content gets checked with markitdown, slides get inspected visually, and the author recommends bringing in subagents for that pass. One thing to know before you commit: the license is proprietary, with terms in LICENSE.txt. Read them if the skill is headed into commercial work.
What it helps with
- extract text from an existing .pptx deck
- edit slides inside a template
- build a deck from scratch without a template
- unpack a .pptx into XML and pack it back
- catch leftover placeholder text on slides
Example prompts for the agent
- read presentation.pptx and list the key points per slide
- build an 8-slide deck about our product launch
- fix the headings in deck.pptx and strip placeholder text
