i18n-localization — Claude Code skill: i18n and localization patterns
A Claude skill covering internationalization and localization: translation keys, locale files, RTL layout and a checker script.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/i18n-localizationWhat i18n-localization does
This skill lays out i18n and L10n patterns: why translation keys beat raw text, how to namespace strings by feature, how to keep one language per file. It ships examples for react-i18next, next-intl and Python gettext, a locales/ layout split by language, and a pre-ship checklist.
RTL gets its own section. Logical CSS properties such as margin-inline-start replace margin-left, and icons flip with [dir="rtl"]. A table of common problems maps each one to a fix — missing translations, date and number formatting through Intl, pluralization through ICU. To catch hardcoded strings and missing keys there is scripts/i18n_checker.py, run as python scripts/i18n_checker.py <project_path>.
The skill is limited to Read, Glob and Grep. It finds strings, it does not rewrite them. So plan the actual replacement as a separate step instead of expecting the agent to patch every component for you.
What it helps with
- spot hardcoded strings across components
- organize translations into namespaced locale files
- format dates and numbers per locale
- add RTL support to an existing layout
- verify every translation key exists in the locale files
Example prompts for the agent
- run i18n_checker over the project and list the hardcoded strings left
- move the text in this component into locale files
- check whether the layout breaks when switched to RTL
