portfolio-risk-management — Claude skill: position sizing and hedges
Turns a listed-equity thesis into an implementable risk posture: how much to hold, what to hedge with, and when to resize.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill portfolio-risk-management -a codexWhat portfolio-risk-management does
The skill runs in three modes. position_sizing answers how much to own or short, where add and exit thresholds sit, and what the loss budget is. hedge_design picks protection instruments and ranks them by basis risk. integrated_risk_plan covers the case where size and hedge depend on each other: it lays out an unhedged version against a size-down version, then recommends a package.
Under the hood it is a set of shared instructions plus routing to adjacent skills. Before any analysis it reads the runtime contract in ../public-equity-investing/SKILL.md, then pulls sources from three categories: internal research, portfolio models and trackers, market data and estimates. For a substantial plan the default output is a standalone HTML risk report with sizing tables, hedge comparisons and monitoring triggers.
The boundaries are strict. It does not build the thesis, underwrite standalone events, execute trades, or give personal investment advice. Credit instruments stay out too: CDS levels and credit spreads enter only as common-equity downside signals, and credit hedging is handed to Credit Markets. Ask for a size without protection and the hedge_design mode never loads.
What it helps with
- size a long or short equity position
- find and rank hedge candidates by basis risk
- combine size and hedge into one plan with resize rules
- measure how a trade shifts total portfolio exposure
- set add, trim and exit thresholds
Example prompts for the agent
- Size this position and tell me which constraint sets the ceiling
- Compare three hedge candidates and break down the basis risk for each
- Build an integrated plan: position size, hedge, and resize rules

Questions about portfolio-risk-management
How do I install portfolio-risk-management in Claude?
Run npx skills add openai/plugins --skill portfolio-risk-management -a codex. The skill file then lands at .agents/skills/portfolio-risk-management/SKILL.md.
What does portfolio-risk-management do?
It converts a listed-equity thesis into a risk posture: recommended size, a suitable hedge, the exposure you keep on purpose, and rules for resizing or dropping protection.
Can I use it for credit instruments?
No. CDS, bonds, credit spreads and credit-risk hedging belong to Credit Markets. Here they serve only as downside signals for common equity.
