ncbi-clinicaltables-skill — Codex skill: human gene search
This skill searches human genes through NCBI Clinical Tables and returns compact autocomplete-style rows. Use it for field selection and paginated results.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill ncbi-clinicaltables-skill -a codexWhat ncbi-clinicaltables-skill does
The skill accepts search text and sends Clinical Tables NCBI requests through scripts/ncbi_gene_clinicaltables.py. You can choose response fields, set the result count, and use offset for the next page. By default, the agent returns a concise summary from the JSON; it can return the full JSON when explicitly requested.
Python and scripts/ncbi_gene_clinicaltables.py are required. The input JSON must include terms; request options go under params, and large responses can be saved with save_raw. Choose another skill when the task needs general Entrez Gene records rather than search rows.
Install it when Codex needs compact human gene lookup. Skip it for full Gene record retrieval.
What it helps with
- look up a human gene by symbol or keyword
- build compact autocomplete-style search rows
- select GeneID, Symbol, and description fields
- fetch the next result page with offset
- save the full response to a file
Example prompts for the agent
- Search for TP53 and return GeneID, Symbol, and description.
- Show the next page for kinase using offset.
- Return the full JSON and save it to a file.
