intelligence-collection-disciplines — Claude Code skill: competitor
A skill that splits market and competitor research into eight collection channels, then fuses the results. Three weak but independent signals beat one loud claim.
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill intelligence-collection-disciplines -a claude-codeWhat intelligence-collection-disciplines does
The skill covers eight disciplines: open sources, financial filings, geospatial and demographic data, patents and changelogs, human-source moves and win/loss, web and pricing monitoring plus job posts, operational indicators, and all-source fusion. Every discipline says what to gather, where to find it, which signal-to-inference chains to run, and which PM artifact it feeds: a battle card, a TAM/SAM/SOM estimate, a roadmap bet, pricing.
Why bother with eight? Because each channel fails in its own way. A press release can stretch the truth; a customs record, a patent application and thirty job ads come from three separate bureaucracies that would all have to mislead in the same direction. The skill opens with six variables to fill in: target, market, geography at country level, buyer, suspected strategic move, and the decision the research will change. Author's advice: leave the last one blank and you have a hobby, not research.
Check your access to paid sources before you start, since some disciplines lean on full analyst reports while free alternatives sit in separate columns. Treat the output as reference material: it structures the work, it does not hand you a finished report with numbers.
What it helps with
- pick collection channels for a specific competitor question
- turn public signals into a defensible inference
- cross-check a suspected competitor move across sources
- build battle card material from reviews and job posts
- back a TAM slide with evidence that survives scrutiny
Example prompts for the agent
- Work through OSINT and SIGINT on this competitor and show me where the signals agree and where they contradict.
- Map signal-to-inference chains from the competitor's patents and job posts, labeling each item fact, inference or assumption.

Questions about intelligence-collection-disciplines
How do I install intelligence-collection-disciplines in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill intelligence-collection-disciplines -a claude-code. The skill then sits at ~/.claude/skills/intelligence-collection-disciplines/SKILL.md.
What does intelligence-collection-disciplines do?
It structures competitor research as eight separate collection disciplines and shows how to fuse their signals into one conclusion tagged as fact, inference or assumption.
Do I need paid sources to use it?
Not for every discipline. Each source table lists free options alongside paid ones, such as full analyst reports.
