ansoff-matrix · deanpeters — Claude Code skill: growth options and setup
This skill maps growth options to the Ansoff Matrix, weighs their risk, and proposes a sequence. Use it to assess where a company or product could grow next.
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ansoff-matrix -a claude-codeWhat ansoff-matrix does
The skill sorts growth options into four areas: selling an existing product in its current market, entering a new market, building for current customers, and diversification. It looks for documented demand signals behind each option, rates the risk, and recommends an order. An empty quadrant is acceptable; filling it with an unsupported idea is not.
It first uses research already available, then asks up to three questions about the product, growth goal, and constraints. When fresh research is needed, it presents a search plan. The result lays out options by quadrant and a proposed sequence, including a reason to hold back on a tempting move. Diversification carries the highest risk in the framework, so a low-risk rating there would require unusually strong evidence.
Give it the current product or company core and the outcome you want; these define the matrix axes. This is for company- or product-level growth planning, not choosing a single feature to build.
What it helps with
- map growth options across the Ansoff Matrix
- support candidate moves with evidence of demand
- rate growth options by risk
- sequence moves and explain which bet should wait
Example prompts for the agent
- Map growth options for our product. Our current market is small businesses, and we want to grow revenue without acquisitions.
- Pressure-test our diversification idea against documented demand signals.
- Compare entering a new market with building a product for current customers, then recommend an order.
