indicator-chart — Claude Code skill: Plotly indicator charts
Draws an interactive Plotly chart for a technical indicator on a given symbol, with candlesticks, overlays and subplots. Handy when you want to eyeball a signal instead of writing the script yourself.
npx skills add marketcalls/openalgo-indicator-skills --skill indicator-chart -a claude-codeWhat indicator-chart does
The skill takes four arguments: indicator, symbol, exchange and interval. Leave them out and the agent asks what you want charted. It then creates charts/{indicator_name}/, writes {symbol}_{indicator}_chart.py there, and starts from the matching template in rules/assets/{indicator}_chart/chart.py when one exists.
The generated script loads .env from the project root with find_dotenv(), pulls history through OpenAlgo's client.history(), converts the index to datetime, sorts it and drops the timezone. Indicator math comes from openalgo.ta. The figure uses Plotly's dark template with a category x-axis. Overlays such as EMA, Bollinger, Supertrend and Ichimoku sit on the candlestick panel; RSI, MACD, Stochastic, ADX, OBV and volume get their own panels via make_subplots. Output is saved as HTML and shown with fig.show().
US tickers need the exchange set to YFINANCE, which routes data through yfinance rather than OpenAlgo. Indian symbols, by contrast, depend on a working OpenAlgo client with its key in .env — without that the history call fails. Lookback scales with the interval: a year on daily bars, six months on hourly, one month on five-minute.
What it helps with
- chart RSI on a stock without writing the script by hand
- put EMA and Bollinger bands on the same candlestick panel
- build a multi-panel view with RSI, MACD and volume
- mark Supertrend entry points with triangle markers
- get a plain-language read of the current indicator value
Example prompts for the agent
- Chart EMA on SBIN, NSE, daily interval
- Show me RSI for RELIANCE on NSE daily
- Build a multi-panel chart for SBIN with candles, RSI, MACD and volume
