indicator-setup — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Creates a venv, installs the libraries OpenAlgo indicator scripts rely on, and prepares project folders plus a .env with your API key.
npx skills add marketcalls/openalgo-indicator-skills --skill indicator-setup -a claude-codeWhat indicator-setup does
This skill builds a working Python workspace for OpenAlgo indicator projects. It checks which OS you are on, creates a venv, and pip-installs openalgo, plotly, dash, streamlit, yfinance, matplotlib, seaborn, scipy and a few more. Nothing lands in the global interpreter, and if a virtual environment already exists, it asks before making another.
Next come the folders charts, dashboards, custom_indicators and scanners. The skill asks for your OpenAlgo API key and host (http://127.0.0.1:5000 by default), writes both to .env, and appends that file to .gitignore. It finishes with an import check and a small ta.ema and ta.rsi run on sample prices, then prints a summary.
Check your Python first. openalgo 2.x needs 3.12 or newer, so on an older interpreter the skill aborts with a message. Pass a version such as python3.12 as the argument to pick the interpreter. Indicators run on a compiled Rust core shipped inside the package, so there is no warmup.
What it helps with
- create a venv with openalgo, plotly and streamlit installed
- lay out folders for charts, dashboards and scanners
- store the OpenAlgo API key in
.envand keep it out of git - confirm
ta.emaandta.rsirun after installation - catch a Python version that is too old for openalgo 2.x
Example prompts for the agent
- Run
/indicator-setupto prepare this project for OpenAlgo indicators - Use
/indicator-setup python3.12so the venv is built with that interpreter - With indicator-setup, create a venv with openalgo and streamlit and write a
.envholding my API key
