hummingbot-developer — Claude Code skill: what it does, install
This skill builds and runs Hummingbot, Gateway, and the API from source. Use it for local development and stack checks.
npx skills add hummingbot/skills --skill hummingbot-developer -a claude-codeWhat hummingbot-developer does
The skill guides source-based work on Hummingbot, Gateway, and hummingbot-api. It can inspect the development environment, choose branches for the three repositories, install dependencies, build a wheel and Docker images, then start the stack and test service connectivity.
Its slash commands cover separate stages such as install-deps, select-branches, install-all, build-all, verify-build, run-dev-stack, setup-hummingbot, run-gateway, and test-integration. Dependency setup can handle conda, Node.js v22, pnpm, Git, and Docker. Restart the terminal after PATH changes. Docker is required for image builds.
The default repository paths are ~/.openclaw/workspace/hummingbot, ~/.openclaw/workspace/hummingbot-gateway, and ~/.openclaw/workspace/hummingbot-api. You can replace them with HUMMINGBOT_DIR, GATEWAY_DIR, HUMMINGBOT_API_DIR, or WORKSPACE. The API is wired to local Hummingbot source with pip install -e.
What it helps with
- check a local Hummingbot development environment
- install the three repositories in sequence
- build the wheel and Docker images
- start the source-based development stack
- test API, Gateway, and Hummingbot connectivity
Example prompts for the agent
- Check the development environment with
/hummingbot-developer start. - Install dependencies and the repositories with
/hummingbot-developer install-deps, then/hummingbot-developer install-all. - Build and test the local stack with
/hummingbot-developer build-all,/hummingbot-developer verify-build, and/hummingbot-developer test-integration.
