hummingbot-heartbeat — Claude Code skill: setup and usage
Gathers hourly Hummingbot status metrics and portfolio balances for automated chat alerts. Useful for tracking trading controllers and active executors remotely.
npx skills add hummingbot/skills --skill hummingbot-heartbeat -a claude-codeWhat hummingbot-heartbeat does
The skill runs scripts/bot_status.py to inspect a local Hummingbot deployment. It queries endpoints for the API version, active bot controllers, open trade executors, and recent portfolio valuations. When Docker is present on the machine, the script also checks the status of the Gateway container using docker ps.
Configuration values come from environment variables or a local .env file. By default, the script connects to http://localhost:8000 with standard admin credentials.
Without an accessible Hummingbot API instance, the script fails immediately upon execution. The host environment requires Python 3.9 or higher.
What it helps with
- Track Hummingbot API health and version updates automatically
- Inspect active bot controllers without terminal access
- Filter out terminated or failed trade executors to monitor active runs
- Report token balances and total portfolio value directly to chat
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up the hummingbot-heartbeat cron task for hourly notifications
- Run
python3 scripts/bot_status.pyto check the current bot status - Execute
python3 scripts/bot_status.py --jsonto generate raw JSON metrics
